Display E-Waste Fee
In the state of California, customers must be charged a $5 or $6 E-Waste Fee if they purchase a product with a display, e.g., iPad, laptop computer, or TV. In addition, all stores located in the U.S. that are shipping to or picking up in California also need to add the E-Waste Fee. Non-merchandise SKUs are set up to charge the fee.
The fee is paid to the state of California by Follett, regardless of whether we collect the funds from the customer or not. It is important to collect the funds to adhere to the statute and manage profitability.
The fee and SKU is based on the screen size of the device:

- All stores in California must add the E-Waste Fee to applicable sales of computers and tablets.
- All stores (in any state) must add the E-Waste Fee to any order being shipped to a California address or being picked up in California at a store.
