Tax Exempt and Override
A tax exempt customer must be set up in CORE POS Back Office (BO) in order to process the transaction as tax exempt. The customer can be set up in advance or by accessing BO from the register workstation, you can add a tax exempt customer if it does not exist. You can also search in BO for a tax exempt customer if you are not able to locate it at the POS.
Note: Select the Windows + D key on your keyboard to toggle from POS to Back Office.
To complete a tax exempt transaction from the POS:
- Add the items to the transaction.
- Select Transaction.
- Select Tax.
- Override %
- Override Amt.
- Exempt
- Select Exempt.
- Type the tax certificate number in the field or select Find at the register.
Note: You can only search by tax certificate number at the POS (select from drop-down menu). - Select the Reason Code from the drop-down menu.
Tax exempt certificate is applied and the tax amount is removed from the transaction.
Note: Select Override % or Override Amt in step 3 to edit the amount. Confirm before processing a tax override.
For transaction and item level tax overrides, Ship To State and Zip Code fields display when selecting TT00—Ship Out of State and TT00—Returning Diff County. Ship To State is a required field; Zip Code is an optional field.
To set up tax exempt customer from Back Office:
- Select the Store Ops tab.
- Select the Tax Certificate link.
You can locate or edit an existing tax exempt certificate number or add a new one. As soon as the number is added in BO, it is immediately available in POS.
Note: You can copy and paste the certificate number from BO to the POS.
You can toggle from POS to Back Office to add a new customer while remaining in the transaction.
