Onsite and Offsite POS Operations
Whether onsite (in-store) or at an offsite event, CORE POS has the ability to operate in both online and offline modes. This functionality provides you with the flexibility to serve your customers for both planned events, like an author signing or athletic event outside the bookstore, or unplanned instances, like the server goes down.

Whether you are planning for an offsite event or ensuring you are prepared when technical issues occur, it is important to be familiar with the different options available. This allows you to continue to ring sales and serve your customer needs. When you are in the store, CORE POS can operate in both online and offline modes. When you are outside of the store, CORE POS can operate in both online and offline modes. |
Online (Connected) - Onsite and Offsite
Whether in the store or at an offsite event, if you are connected to the network (online), all POS functionality and all tenders are available. When at an offsite event, simply connect through Zscaler and a WiFi connection for full functionality.
Offline (No in-store network or WiFi) - Onsite and Offsite
When offline, whether in the store or at an offsite event, there are limitations in the available functionality and tenders at the POS.
If the server is offline, but registers have network connectivity:
- Only cash and credit (with manual authorization or a stand-alone terminal) tenders are available.
- Follow the Payment (Credit or Debit) Card Acceptance Policy.
- If using a stand-alone (wireless) credit card terminal, follow the steps on the Tender with Credit/Debit Card topic for a wireless credit card terminal.
- Follow the Payment (Credit or Debit) Card Acceptance Policy.
- All POS transactions are available, except returns with a receipt and Apple DEP enrollments.
In addition, if the network is completely offline, Back Office functionality is not available. Depending on the timing of going offline, you may need to follow specific directions for start of day, end of day, and other processes.
See the CORE POS In-Store and Out of Store Operations Matrix for details on each solution.
