Convert to Purchase
Customers who want to keep their rental materials after the end of the Follett ACCESS Course Section may do so through the convert to purchase option and before the check-in date. A convert to purchase transaction is a final sale. A refund of a convert to purchase transaction is not allowed.
Note: Additional important restrictions when performing convert to purchase for materials in the Follett ACCESS program:
- Convert to purchase is supported in-store only.
- Distance learning customers may perform a convert to purchase over the telephone.
- Convert to purchase must be performed in POS to capture funds at the time of the transaction.
- Convert to purchase cannot be performed on eFollett.com.
Rental Due Date Extension
Rental due date extensions are not permitted in the Follett ACCESS program. If a customer needs the book for another course, they may convert to purchase or enroll in another Follett ACCESS course section and receive another copy of the required materials.
Check-in Follett ACCESS and Rental Materials
Depending on the program selected by the institution, you might have customers who rented materials as part of the Follett ACCESS program, and rented materials through the standard text rental program. Perform all check-in for a single patron in one transaction.
If a customer does not return rental materials to the store at the end of the rental period, the non-return charges are charged to the correct account automatically.
Rental Collection
After an institution has been notified of non-returned or damaged rentals, the customer resolves these items with the institution. The institution contract commits to providing collateral that can be charged if there is a non-returned or damaged rental. The charge is done through a second CARP account. The institution is automatically charged when the book is not returned. After resolving, the customer can choose to sell their materials through the book buyback process.
Important: DO NOT process a refund if a customer attempts to bring back their book after the rental return grace period has expired.
