Washington Disposable Bag Fee
Effective October 1, 2021, Washington state begins enforcement of legislature to eliminate single-use plastic carry-out bags.
To reduce the amount of pollution, the state of Washington is prohibiting single-use plastic carryout bags and charging a fee for acceptable bags. A non-refundable, taxable fee of $.08 is to be charged for each acceptable bag, which includes:
Large paper carryout bags made with 40% recycled content
Thick reusable plastic carryout bags made with 20% recycled content and a minimum of 2.25 mil thick film
The $.08 fee should be charged for each disposable bag provided to the customer for all in-store and online orders picked up in-store in the state of Washington.
The Washington Disposable Bag Fee SKU, #24609265, has been set up for use both at the POS and in SODA. The fee is taxable and will display on the receipt as Washington Disposable Bag Fee. The fee collected for the bag is posted to Misc Income for the store.

For in-store purchases, add the SKU to each POS transaction, as necessary. For online purchases, add the SKU manually to SODA during online order processing.
POS Procedure
Ring the items normally.
Scan or enter the Washington Disposable Bag Fee, SKU # 24609265.
Scan the SKU for each bag used or edit the line item quantity.
Tender the transaction normally.
Online Procedure
A message displays on eFollett.com on the My Bag page, Order Summary, when a customer makes a purchase at a store website located in Washington.
The Washington Disposable Bag Fee should be added when confirming the picks for an order in SODA. Only team members with intermediate or manager level authorization can add items to an order.
Select Add line Item on the SODA Picking Confirmation screen for the specific order.
Type the Washington Disposable Bag Fee SKU # 24609265 in the SKU field, then press Tab.
Type the quantity for the number of bags to be used to pack the order in the Order Qty field.
Note: If the order is large enough and will be packed in a box, the bag fee is not necessary.
Press Tab, then select Accept.
