Vermont Paper Bag Fee (Stores in Vermont only)
Effective July 1, 2021, Vermont begins enforcement of legislature to eliminate single-use plastic carry-out bags. All carry-out bags made available to customers must be either a reusable bag or a paper bag. Plastic bags are banned. Follett stores will charge a 10 cent fee for each paper bag provided for in-store purchases and online orders picked up in-store.

To support the program, a Vermont Paper Bag Fee SKU in the amount of 10 cents has been set up for use at the POS and in SODA, SKU # 24723033. The fee is non-taxable and will display on the receipt as Vermont Paper Bag Fee. The fee collected for the bag is posted to Misc Income for the store.
For in-store purchases, add the SKU to each POS transaction, as necessary. For online purchases packaged in a paper bag, add the SKU manually to SODA during online order processing.
POS Procedure
Ring the items normally.
Scan or enter the Vermont Paper Bag Fee, SKU # 24723033.
Scan the SKU for each bag used or edit the line item quantity.
Tender the transaction normally.
Online Procedure
A message displays on eFollett.com on the My Bag page, Order Summary, when a customer makes a purchase at a store website located in Vermont. This alerts them to the possible fee if a paper bag is used for in-store pickup.
The Vermont Paper Bag Fee should be added when confirming the picks for an order in SODA. Only team members with intermediate or manager level authorization can add items to an order.
Select Add line Item on the SODA Picking Confirmation screen for the specific order.
Type the Vermont Paper Bag Fee SKU # 24723033 in the SKU field, then press Tab.
Type the quantity for the number of bags to be used to pack the order in the Order Qty field.
Note: If the order is large enough and will be packed in a box, the bag fee is not necessary.
Press Tab, then select Accept.
